Jake Cameron-Next Filmmaker extraordinaire

Jake Cameron wins first Emmy Award!

By Tami Larson

Jake Cameron, former Mill Valley resident and 2017 Tam High graduate has  been a film fanatic since he was a kid, starting with an obsession with Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee. He even took TaeKwonDo for 6 years to try and be just like them. In high school, Jake realized that his passion for film was behind the camera after being accepted into a documentary film program where they made several short films on impactful organizations like 826 Valencia and Slide Ranch – both non-profits serving underprivileged children in the San Francisco Bay Area. Jake carried his passion to the University of Colorado, Boulder (Sko Buffs!), graduating in 2021 with a BA in Film Production.  For the past two years, he’s had the amazing opportunity of working with their award winning athletics department media team, Buff Vision. There he created mini-docs about athletes, and their personal stories, while also covering live sporting events, and leading a team that brings innovative content to new media channels. And then Jake tells us,

“IT ALL STARTED WITH A PHONE CALL

I found Mike on Instagram and decided to reach out after seeing his base jumping videos. He was nice enough to meet up and allow me to film him and his family. After a day with him, I could tell Mike would be the perfect personality for a film. “ Well his hunch was spot on.   “Free Falling”, Jake’s film about Colorado base jumper Michael Zurich has just landed him his first Emmy Award  for Student Production: Non-Fiction Short Form which he not only Executive Produced  but was also the  Director of Photography and Post Production.  The Emmy has become  just another of a growing list of awards filling Jakes shelves these days.

Jake’s hopes for the future are to work either on the production side of advertising or sports filmmaking. No doubt we will be hearing much more about the talented, Mill Valley native in the years to come. Congratulations Jake! We look forward to seeing you on the big screen.
